Classification: Animal Location(s): subterranean areas Variations: None Known Weaknesses: sword, dagger, blackjack, arrows, mines, gas |
Description:
A well-studied specimen of the animal kingdom, the Burrick is considered somewhat of a pest in architectural circles. Slightly smaller than a horse, burricks are a strange cross between lizard and mammal. They live underground in tunnels of their own manufacture - tunnels created by the acid breath indigenous to all burricks. This acid breath is also used as a defensive measure, and will cause sickness and fatigue in any affected by it. Because of their burrowing, burricks are often the bane of the City's architects. At times there have even been bounties placed on the creatures to reduce their ever-growing population.
Despite their reputation, burricks are usually quite docile and seldom migrate beyond their subterranean lairs. Some nobles have even maintained the creatures as pets - a difficult task considering that few substances can withstand burrick gas. Such aspiring owners must also travel underground in order to capture the beasts.
It is known that the Old Quarter is one of the few places in the City where burricks have emerged to live on the surface, but none are willing to cross the wall simply to capture a burrick. Apparently the rotten remains of the Quarter are well suited to the creature's needs, and even simulate their natural underground habitat in certain respects. At any rate, care should always be taken when underground lest one finds him or herself in the midst of an angry burricks' nest.
Weaknesses:
Burricks are susceptible to the same weapons and tactics as a human foe. They can be slain with the sword, knocked out with the blackjack or gas, and killed with a well-placed arrow. Of course, fire arrows or other explosive forces will also kill them, but such is not advisable due to the amount of noise and damage involved. Care should be taken - a wounded burrick will typically cover the surrounding area in acidic gas and then run for help, soon returning with several other burricks.
Threat Assessment:
Burricks are a continuing presence within the City, and can threaten a Keeper if care is not taken. Burricks are animals and as such will instinctively defend themselves and their territory. The acidic gas belched by a burrick is highly toxic and can reduce one's health quickly. However, since they are only found underground and are not intelligent, the threat assessment for burricks is considered low.
