Courtyard > Enemies > The Golden Boy

Greetings, apprentice. Come to see our little rogue's gallery, have you? Yes. Well, after all - why not? It's important to know about those that might harm you, and there are certainly enough individuals in the City who would wish to harm us. The ones who don't know about us see as a threat, and the ones that do know of our existence - well, sometimes I think they almost see us as trophies. At any rate, best you'd learn their weaknesses before they find yours.

The Golden Boy

Classification: Mechanical

Location(s): Mechanist facilities

Variations: none

Known Weaknesses: none

Description:

Perhaps the pinnacle of Mechanist achievement, the small mechanism we call "The Golden Boy" was the personal companion of Karras himself. Seemingly simple in appearance, the Golden Boy resembled a small child, or perhaps a life-size statue of one. In fact, however, this device was a clever construct - more intelligent than one of the Builder's Children yet small enough that Karras could carry him along during his travels. The Golden Boy also possessed fully manipulative hands and could, unlike the Children, open doors and travel anywhere a human might. Its sole purpose seems to have been that of an alarm -- upon detecting an intruder, it would instantly flee to alert others much as a commoner or noble might.

This construct was only seen once by our agent in Angelwatch, where the boy was said to guard Karras' personal chamber. We have also been told by Garrett that the "child" was in SoulForge just before the death of Karras. If it was, as we believe, the same device, then it is likely that Karras brought it with him when he relocated to the fortress.

We have had no chance to study the Golden Boy as it has apparently disappeared. We know that we were the first to enter SoulForge following the release of the Necrotic Mutox, and yet this single construct was never seen again or accounted for.

Weaknesses:

Neither our agent nor Garrett himself were able to damage the Golden Boy during their encounters with it. It is apparently invulnerable to blades, arrows, mines, gas, or even an explosive charge. As such, should the construct ever be encountered again, care should be taken not to alert the device to one's presence. Stealth or perhaps even an invisibility potion is recommended.

Threat Assessment:

The Golden Boy construct has seemingly disappeared. Perhaps not even the former members of the Mechanist Order know of its whereabouts. The construct is apparently incapable of causing direct harm to an intruder, yet cannot be destroyed or disabled by any known means. We have placed its threat assessment at low - at least until it is sighted again.
