Guards
Classification: Human Location(s): varies Variations: numerous Known Weaknesses: sword, dagger, blackjack, arrows, mines, gas |
Description:
The City and its individual estates are primarily protected by three forces - the Baron's Guard, the City Watch, and private guardsmen. The Order of the Hammer, of course, was once a factor but have yet to reclaim their former presence within the city following the events of the Metal Age and the actions of Karras.
The Baron's Guard answers only to the Baron himself whilst the City Watch fall under the authority of the City Council. Private guardsmen, of course, are privately hired and supervised by their employers. With the Baron and his Guard away at war, however, the past several years have witnessed the City Watch grow in both number and authority. No longer checked by their counterparts, the Watch can now be found in all areas of the City -- typically enforcing their own brand of justice along the length of a sword. However, the enforcement of law within private estates and establishments often falls to private guardsmen.
Guards can be found in many estates and mansions as well as other establishments - museums, banks, inns, etc. The average guard is paid either on stipend or by hourly wages, and some even garner commission on any intruders caught while on duty. As with their Watch counterparts, guardsmen can usually be found carrying swords or bows while patrolling their given territory. They will typically investigate any strange noise or movement, and can be quite... persistent... in the pursuit of an enemy.
Weaknesses:
Guards are susceptible to the same weapons and tactics as any other human. They can be slain with blade or arrow, knocked out with a blackjack, or killed with explosive force. Of course, the latter tactic is quite noisy and may alert others to your presence. One should note, as well, that a guard slain by sword or arrow occasionally cries out when struck.
Threat Assessment:
Guards are extremely numerous in the City and will attack an intruder on sight. Whether carrying blade or arrow, guards are typically able to deliver damage quickly and efficiently. Guards are given a very high threat rating.
