Courtyard > Enemies > Kurshok

Greetings, apprentice. Come to see our little rogue's gallery, have you? Yes. Well, after all - why not? It's important to know about those that might harm you, and there are certainly enough individuals in the City who would wish to harm us. The ones who don't know about us see as a threat, and the ones that do know of our existence - well, sometimes I think they almost see us as trophies. At any rate, best you'd learn their weaknesses before they find yours.

Kurshok

Classification: Non-Human

Location(s): Sunken Citadel

Variations: none

Known Weaknesses: sword, dagger, blackjack, arrows, mines, gas

Description:

The Kurshok are a race of fish-like humanoids who reside in a series of sunken ruins deep beneath the City and the bay. From documents found in the ruins by our agents, it is apparent that the Kurshok once served the Trickster several thousand years ago, perhaps even before the fall of Karath-Din, but were exiled after their king angered the deity.

In a disaster called the "Great Fall", the Citadel of the Kurshok was swallowed by the earth. Kurshok legend holds that this was done by the Trickster as punishment for the race after their king proclaimed he was more glorious and powerful than the Trickster himself. Although most of the race perished in the disaster, some survived and adapted to the now-ruined and sunken citadel. They dwell there still, passing down stories of former glory and hoping for the day that their race will return to wreak vengeance upon the Trickster and his servants.

Physically, the Kurshok stand upright like a man but are several spans taller, towering over most humans with ease. Kurshok possess great strength and forge their weapons accordingly. The typical Kurshok guard can be seen wielding a sword nearly as long as a man is tall and half as wide as most. With these massive weapons they can easily crush any intruder unlucky enough to be caught.

Weaknesses:

Kurshok are susceptible to the same weapons and tactics as a human. They can be slain with blade or arrow, knocked out with a blackjack, or killed with explosive force. Of course, the latter tactic is quite noisy and may alert others to your presence. Keep in mind, of course, that anyone slain by sword or arrow occasionally cries out when struck. The Kurshok, in particular, seem to have excellent hearing even at a distance.

Threat Assessment:

These days the Kurshok civilization has fallen into decay. Over several hundred generations, the Kurshok have lost their ability to read as well as the other crafts they once prided themselves on. The typical Kurshok is not very intelligent as such things are measured, but is well able to patrol an area and kill an intruder. The Kurshok of modern times no longer believe in the legends of an "aboveworld" - the surface on which we live - so rare indeed is the Kurshok encountered within the City. If one were to enter the depths of the Sunken Citadel, however, the threat presented by the Kurshok would be very high indeed.
