Courtyard > Enemies > Watchers

Greetings, apprentice. Come to see our little rogue's gallery, have you? Yes. Well, after all - why not? It's important to know about those that might harm you, and there are certainly enough individuals in the City who would wish to harm us. The ones who don't know about us see as a threat, and the ones that do know of our existence - well, sometimes I think they almost see us as trophies. At any rate, best you'd learn their weaknesses before they find yours.

Watchers

Classification: Mechanical

Location(s): Mechanist facilities or supported areas

Variations: none

Known Weaknesses: explosive force

Description:

During the Metal Age it was common to find buildings protected by Watchers and Sentries. These mechanical innovations were introduced to the city by the Mechanists and represented a new threat to any who wished to remain unseen. Both resembling the heads of the "Servants of Karras", the Watcher and the Sentry were often seen in pairs. Whilst the Watcher provided the ability to detect and target intruders, the Sentry provided the firepower.

Watchers appear to be a mechanical head, usually attached to the ceiling, that rotates to cover a wider field of vision. The Watcher's single lens "eye" can detect movement and can apparently determine the difference between friend and foe. Knowledge of how this is possible quite likely died with Karras.

A Watcher possesses a light on one side which indicates its alert status. Upon first detecting movement, the light will turn yellow to indicate caution. Upon confirmation of an intruder, the light will turn red and alarms will sound.

Weaknesses:

Like Sentries, Watchers are immune to blade, arrow, or gas. They can be destroyed by explosive force if necessary, but most Sentries and Watchers were powered by a nearby source. The preferred method of disabling either would be to locate the power source and simply turn it off.

Threat Assessment:

Watchers are very rare these days, due in part to the high expense of maintaining them but also due to the unpopularity of Mechanist devices in modern times. Some former Mechanists still render a living repairing and maintaining such devices, but their customer base is extremely limited. The current threat level for these devices is very low, but it was high during the time of the Metal Age.
