Will o' the Wisps
Classification: Unknown (possibly Elemental?) Location(s): Pagan territories Variations: Metal Age, Age of Darkness Known Weaknesses: none |
Description:
A strange sight found only in Pagan territories, the Will o' the Wisp is a hovering ball of light. This phenomenon, for lack of a better word, has been seen in both stationary and mobile forms. Beyond this, we know very little of the wisps - not even if they are living creatures or not.
Of course, many theories abound on the subject. Pagan legend states that the wisps are the guardian spirits of Pagans who have died for their cause, while common legend holds that a will o' the wisp is the soul of a lost child. A theory from within our own ranks suggests that the wisps might be a form of air elemental, and yet another believes them to be some form of pixie or fairy. The truth may never be known.
What is known is this - the wisps emit a suffuse light which illuminates the area around them. The mobile form has revealed more than one of our number when least expected. Care must be taken to avoid the light of a wisp.
Variation: Metal Age Prior to the death of Viktoria, Garrett encountered Will o' the Wisps in the various areas of the Maw of Chaos. There they resembled balls of white light. As they moved about, a trail of light was left in their wake as the glow in the room slowly faded. Then, as now, the wisps posed no threat save the lack of concealment. | |
Variation: Age of Darkness After the death of Viktoria, it would appear that the wisps changed form along with the other beasts and creatures of the Maw. Wisps can still be seen in Pagan territories, but now they resemble diffuse balls of green gas rather than the previous sharp balls of light. No trail of light is present in the modern form, and the light of the wisp moves smoothly along with it rather than fading from an area. They still pose no apparent threat save revealing the shadows. |
Weaknesses:
Wisps appear immune to any weapon or tactic attempted. If such creatures are spirits or elementals, it may explain their apparent immortality.
Threat Assessment:
Will o' the Wisps pose no direct threat to a Keeper. The light they give off may reveal anything lurking in nearby shadows, but this should prove a minor obstacle for anyone trained by our order. Wisps present only a low threat.
